First, using a precision screwdriver, carefully remove all screws from the iPhone case and place them in a safe place.

Second, remove all the screws from the inside and carefully disassemble all the internal components until you reach the logic board of the iPhone. Remember the order of disassembly. This will be helpful when you assemble back your iPhone.

When you look at an iPhone’s logic board, you’ll see an IC similar to the one pictured above. Keep in mind that different iPhone models will have different part numbers on the touchscreen controller IC. For example, the part number for the iPhone 4S touchscreen controller IC is — TI 343S0538.

Dry solder can be one of the causes of touchscreen problems. Using an ESD safe brush, apply a good quality Solder Paste to all sides of that particular IC.

Next, use the ATTEN ST-862D Hot Air Gun to provide hot air around the IC. Make sure to provide hot air from a certain height. If you supply hot air from too close then the solder will melt. Our motivation is not to melt the solder, but to remove all oxides from the solder joint.

Now use any good PCB cleaning chemical like IPA solution to clean the logic board with the help of an ESD safe brush.

Assemble back the iPhone and inspect the touchscreen. It should work now.

If the problem is not resolved, then you may need to replace the touch screen controller IC ( SMD ).
